Paragraph
I’ve been thinking about inspiration a lot lately. Particularly where mine comes from. I have always been heavily influenced by movies and television, always looking at beautiful screenshots, watching trailer after trailer and feeling inspired to create. Recently, I came to the realization that some of my absolute favourite things to watch are not actually visually inspiring.
My two favourite television shows of all time are the X Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. At face value, these shows can seem silly, nerdy, cheesy, etc. and the are certainly not going into my inspiration folder for favourite screenshots. But what I have come to realize is that what I love most about these two shows (aside from the incredible character development…and David Duchovney of course) is the fact that the directors took creative risks. Chris Carter did an entire episode in black and white, Joss Whedon created an episode filmed as a musical, as well as one episode where everyone’s voices were taken away, forcing the actors to convey emotion without relying on a script. I could go on for hours about the creative risks that both of these directors took – but I encourage you to watch for yourselves ;) Because let’s face it – 200 episodes all filmed the same way can get boring, both to create and to watch.

So I’m taking a tiny risk. No, I don’t edit all of my photos in black and white nor do I crop them 16×9, but for creativity sake, I wanted to see how a full blog post would look in that format :)
I was about to post Janey and Rich’s beautiful, intimate wedding in New Zealand and then literally spent two hours changing everything to black and white in order to really isolate the emotion of the day and cropping 16×9 for a more cinematic feel. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to document this day.
